Extended Abdominoplasty

Extended abdominoplasty is a specialized version of abdominoplasty geared toward patients who have excess skin and fat on their flanks and back. For some of these patients, a traditional abdominoplasty – even combined with liposuction – may not create the desired result.  For these people, an extended abdominoplasty, which goes one step further than a traditional abdominoplasty by lengthening the incision around the sides to include the lower back area, may be an excellent alternative. In addition to improving the abdomen, hip, and flank areas, this version of the procedure may also enhance the appearance of the buttocks and thighs.

Most candidates for this procedure are patients who have had massive weight loss. Those people who have excess skin circumferentially will require an incision around the entire trunk, which is a body lift.

This safe and effective procedure can be truly life-changing.  It requires more time than a traditional adbominoplasty because repositioning of the patient during surgery is required.
