Contouring after Weight Loss Q & A

If I have had surgery to help with weight loss, such as a gastric sleeve or gastric bypass, how long should I wait before having body contouring surgery?

Generally it is preferable to wait until your weight loss has stabilized to your new baseline weight, usually around a year after the weight loss procedure.

If I need multiple procedures, which one should I do first?

Usually body contouring for weight loss begins with the trunk and then progresses to the breasts and finally to the extremities.  For example, a body lift or abdominoplasty would be done first followed by the breast lift/augmentation and then the arms and thighs.  If you wish to have a face/neck lift, this can be done before or after your body contouring.  When you visit your plastic surgeon a plan can be formulated to meet your individual needs.

Can more than one procedure be done at the same time?

It may be possible to do more than one procedure at the same time.  Frequently an abdominoplasty and the necessary breast surgery can be done at the same operating setting.  An order of procedures and possible combinations, as well as a timeline for completion, can be discussed with your surgeon at your consultation.
