Facelift Q & A

Am I a good candidate for a facelift?

If you are unhappy with the appearance of your midface, neck, or jawline, Dr. Swanson may recommend a facelift, provided you are healthy enough for surgery. She reviews your cosmetic goals and medical history and may request pre-op lab work.

People of any age who have lost a substantial amount of weight may experience a dramatic increase in laxity in the skin on their face and neck. When considering a facelift, it’s not so much a matter of age, but rather your satisfaction with your appearance.

What happens during a facelift?

Using the most current techniques for tightening the underlying muscle, as well as for removing excess skin and fat, Dr. Swanson restores a more youthful — but still natural — appearance to your face. Her goal is to restore a younger version of you without looking artificial or like you’ve had work done.

You benefit from her experience, receiving optimal results with minimal swelling, bruising, and recovery time. Often, Dr. Swanson performs a facelift in conjunction with other facial rejuvenation procedures such as an eyelid lift and a TCA skin peel.

How long does it take to recover from a facelift?

Although you will be up and moving within a couple of days, you must avoid strenuous activity for about two weeks. This allows for proper healing and reduces the likelihood of complications.

If you color your hair, you can expect to start coloring it again as soon as all surface healing is complete, usually within four weeks.

Dr. Swanson monitors your healing very carefully with follow-up visits, advising you when to increase your level of activity. Constant care throughout the recovery process ensures that you receive optimal results.

Will my facelift incisions be noticeable?

Dr. Swanson ensures that incisions for a face or neck lift are hidden within the hair-bearing areas of the temples, behind the ears, or in your natural creases. Over time, your incisions become even less visible.
